NEW ORLEANS — The Delta Dental Community Care Foundation awards Bayou Dental Health a $193,000 grant to purchase a multi-operatory mobile dental unit to provide much needed care to underserved residents in the Greater New Orleans region.
The Delta Dental Community Care Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Delta Dental of California and its affiliated companies including Delta Dental Insurance Company, Delta Dental of New York, Inc., and Delta Dental of Pennsylvania. Together with our affiliate companies, Delta Dental of California covers more than 35.4 million enrollees. All of our companies are members, or affiliates of members, of the Delta Dental Plans Association, a network of 39 Delta Dental companies that provides dental coverage to 75 million people in the U.S. The foundation’s mission is to increase access to quality dental care by providing funding and support to advance research, education and access to dental care across our 15-state service area plus the District of Columbia.
In 2017, the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation awarded more than $9.6 million in grants to various types of dental clinics serving children and adults, dental student scholarships, disaster relief, and oral health education and scientific research programs across the foundation’s 15-state service area plus Washington, DC. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $1.4 million in grants to dental clinics in the state of Louisiana.
Bayou Dental Health is a 501c3 nonprofit public health organization that provides oral health services via mobile dental clinics to disadvantaged members of the New Orleans community. The new mobile dental unit will support Bayou Dental Health’s current dental care programs, which reach thousands of children and adults by bringing oral health care services directly into schools, community centers, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. BDH works with a range of public, private, and community-based organizations to provide comprehensive dental care to children and senior citizens who cannot afford treatment due to financial difficulty. BDH aims to make oral health accessible for all populations in New Orleans, regardless of age or socioeconomic status, using mobile dental clinics.
Bayou Dental Health’s mobile clinics have brought oral health care to those who do not have access or can’t afford the cost or time off work to take their children to the dentist. We’re glad that Delta Dental Foundation is playing his part in helping these individuals by contributing to our organization.
Bayou Dental Health and The Delta Dental Foundation share the same objective of making oral health care accessible and affordable for all children. The Delta Dental Foundation’s generous grant will enable us to provide preventive care to even more children throughout the Greater New Orleans – improving the health and quality of life of our patients.
